Spybot and DSO Exploit

Spyware causes tons of problems these days. After spending a whole night helping a friend cleaning up his machine, I tried to do the same clean up on my home and office machine. I found out that “Spybot – Search and Destroy” has problem identifying whether DSO Exploit has been fixed. At first I tried removing the entries from the system registry, but found it very troublesome. Then I found a so called patch for Spybot to cure this DSO Exploit false alarm problem, but I was very sceptical about whether that code was legit. Finally I found a ducssion online explained how to get rid of the false alarm:

If all your critical updates are installed you are protected against DSO Exploit and the finding in Spybot is just a nuisance. Eliminate this by doing the following:

1 Open Spybot and select 'advanced' mode.
2 Select 'settings' in the left column.
3 Select 'ignore product' in the left column.
4 Select 'security' tab.
5 Place check mark in box beside DSO Exploit.
6 Close program
7 Open Spybot and run a scan.

You will find that DSO Exploit has been eliminated and if your computer does not harbour any other Spyware you will see a congratulatory message.

This problem wasted me about 2 hours of time., Stupid Spyware.

Super Card, good. Lotus Notes, bad.

A technology is a good technology if it accommodate your lifestyle instead of forcing you to do the machine way.

For instance, the SuperCard (www.supercard.cn, allows instant save game instance on a GameBoy Advance) I brought is a good technology because it fits my lifestyle. I don’t have a lot of time to play video game, and when I play I can only do it in some fragmented time slot. SuperCard allows me to save any time I want during the game. This allows me to have fun while taking away the frustration of finding the save spot to save within the game.

The 512Mb Memory Stick Pro that I brought 2 weeks ago was also a good technology because it allows me to watch movie while I am on commute to work. Before getting the 512M stick, my 128Mb memory stick can only hold 30 minutes of video to watch on my Sony Clie, but now it holds a full length movie plus several short clips. This makes my long commute time seems much short than it is.

On the other hand, Lotus Notes v.5 is a BAD technology because it doesn’t allows me to set the client to give me warning when I forgot to put subject in an email. I cannot believe is so called enterprise class application doesn’t have this feature. And it caused me some heat in front of my client because I forgot to write subject on two of the email I sent. I know I am to blame, but come on; even the cheesy Outlook Express has this warning feature for missing subject.

Template + CSS in DreamweaverMX 2004

Something strange about embedding CSS in a Template. I figured out, by trial and error, that have the CSS in the same directory as the template cause the dynamic link update stop working. The CSS file reference will got inserted in the applied page staticly, which causes the CSS reference to fail. However, if I move the file and put it in a standalone directory (say, "/styleshsheet"), then the CSS reference wilc be updated in all the applied pages.

Strange.

P.S. Here's what I got from Dreamweaver support Forum:
Link

Never put stylesheets in the Templates folder. That's the source of your
problems.

The only thing that should be in the Templates folder is the *.dwt template
files....
